Description:

New For 2024!

Although Giant and intimidating, Liege Fighter chickens are known to be gentle giants towards humans and can be an excellent choice to add or even "protect" your backyard chicken flock!

At nearly 30 inches tall and weighing up to 12lbs, they are the Chuck Norris of chickens. Commonly referred as "Hawk-Proof" or "Hawk Killer", Liege Fighters were created in the late 1800's in Western Europe for their fierce cockpit capabilities as well as a large meaty carcass that could provide meals for the Belgian families. This breed was created by crosses of what was originally called Lombard's rooster or Bruges Game Fowl bred to Asiatic gamefowl breeds to produce the Liege Fighter chicken or "Luikse Vechter".The Liege Fighter chicken is only 1 of 3 remaining chicken breeds of Belgium gamefowl including the Bruges Game fowl and the Tirlemont game fowl chicken.

Roosters can easily be seen exceeding 12lbs and over 30 inches tall and appear to have feet and legs the size of turkeys while the hens of equally striking appearance and can be around 8lbs and lay 150-200 eggs per year. The hens eggs are truly extra large and tinted in color. This chicken breed comes in many colors but the main colors we breed come in Blue, black, splash, black breasted red and birchen color varieties. They have little to no wattles and thier combs tend to be large pea comb with three ridges. This breed also has an incredible fierce overhanging prominent brow with dark eyes.

They have an incredibly fierce gaze which is shielded by the overhang of a prominent brow. This breed doesn't tend to grow wattles and if they do have them, they are very small. The comb shape tends to resemble a pea comb with three ridges. Despite their very intimidating appearance, these birds are friendly with their human handlers and make great additions to any backyard chicken flock as a flock protector as well as plenty of extra large eggs.

Quick Chick FAQs:

Straight Run Chicks: Straight Run Chicks are un-sexed, randomly selected and each chick has a 50/50 chance of being a male or female.

Shipping: You will receive an automatic email and text message when your chicks ship along with tracking info. Chicks usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later and your local Post Office will call you for pickup. Chicks are never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

What I Need: Everything you need can usually be purchased at your local feed store. Chick starter feed, waterer, brooder (cardboard box, plastic storage bin, bathtub, or even a kiddie pool are popular), pine shavings, thermometer and a heat lamp or heat source. Baby chicks require heat of about 95 degrees their first week of life. Second week you can lower the temperature to 90 degrees and so on with every week going down 5 degrees until 6-8 weeks old or when they are ready to go "outside".

How Do My Chicks Survive Shipment?: Baby chicks do not need food or water for the first 72 hours of life. Ingesting their yolk sac gives them the nutrition they need to survive the journey from Feather Lover Farm's hatching facility to you! Shipping day-old chicks helps ensure a safe arrival since they will usually be just 2 days old when you receive them. Our packaging is professional with a brand new chick shipping box, nesting material and warm long lasting heat packs depending on the time of the year. Your chicks will look like they just hatched out of a nest when you open the box and jump into your arms, thinking you are their mother hen!
