Description:

By far the most sought after rarest auto-sexing chicken breed in the world, the Cream Legbar are extremely friendly and known for their sky blue eggs and auto-sexing chick capabilities. Feather Lover Farms hand selected unrelated Cream Legbars from the imported Jill Rees show winning lines here in the US to use as our breeding flocks and we are honored to finally start shipping high quality chicks throughout America.

Being so rare and highly sought after here in the US, even Martha Stewart started her own flock of Cream Legbars in 2016. If their sky blue eggs and auto-sexing capabilities aren't appealing enough to you, then their feather crested heads should surely do the trick. They are excellent foragers and love to be outside chasing bugs and laying eggs almost anywhere they see fit. Perhaps they lay so many eggs they just can't make it to their nesting box? They do excellent free ranging and are alert if predators are present, though they can adapt to small backyard chicken coops and runs.

Cream Legbars are a medium sized chicken breed and produce an excessive amount of large sky blue eggs. This makes them a great choice for effective egg to feed consumption ratio. In 1952 a study was conducted in England of 7 Legbar hens for one year. The 7 hens produced an average of 260 eggs each. Imagine if you had 7 Cream Legbar hens, you would have to eat omelets for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Cream Legbar eggs are often deceptive in size due to being wider than most eggs. Don't let this fool you as their eggs are still large and their eggs weight is considered large rated under the USDA egg sizing standards.

With all their neat features of sky blue eggs, excellent egg production, unique feather coloring, it's easy to overlook the beauty and privilege of  auto-sexing the Cream Legbar chicks. The convenience of autosexing chicks is not very common, especially in rare chicken breeds here in the US. The Cream Legbar chicks offer a crystal clear visual of their gender when they hatch, with females being brown with stripes and males usually lighter with an obvious white dot on their head. The Cream Legbar makes it easy for even the newest backyard chicken breeders to hatch and sex their own chicks.

Feather Lover Farms Cream Legbar flocks consists of show winning genetics from England. Jill Rees is a major show quality Cream Legbar breeder in England and her birds have won blue ribbons in the major UK poultry shows as well as 1st and 2nd place in the National Poultry Show of Great Britain. Feather Lover Farms is blessed to have these show winning genetics as part of our Cream Legbar flock and we continue to selectively breed for the same quality that Jill Rees breeds for to win those national poultry shows.

Quick Chick FAQs:

Straight Run Chicks: Straight Run Chicks are un-sexed, randomly selected and each chick has a 50/50 chance of being a male or female.

Shipping: You will receive an automatic email and text message when your chicks ship along with tracking info. Chicks usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later and your local Post Office will call you for pickup. Chicks are never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

What I Need: Everything you need can usually be purchased at your local feed store. Chick starter feed, waterer, brooder (cardboard box, plastic storage bin, bathtub, or even a kiddie pool are popular), pine shavings, thermometer and a heat lamp or heat source. Baby chicks require heat of about 95 degrees their first week of life. Second week you can lower the temperature to 90 degrees and so on with every week going down 5 degrees until 6-8 weeks old or when they are ready to go "outside".

How Do My Chicks Survive Shipment?: Baby chicks do not need food or water for the first 72 hours of life. Ingesting their yolk sac gives them the nutrition they need to survive the journey from Feather Lover Farm's hatching facility to you! Shipping day-old chicks helps ensure a safe arrival since they will usually be just 2 days old when you receive them. Our packaging is professional with a brand new chick shipping box, nesting material and warm long lasting heat packs depending on the time of the year. Your chicks will look like they just hatched out of a nest when you open the box and jump into your arms, thinking you are their mother hen!
