Description:

New For 2023!

FLF Exclusive!

Can anyone say fluffy Polka Dot chickens? After many requests over the years to offer the new and glamorous Paint Colored Silkie, we have finally done it!

Feather Lover Farms is pleased to announce being the first chick hatchery in the US to breed and offer rare Paint Silkie chicks for sale! The Silkie (also known as the Silky or Chinese silk chicken, is one of the most loved pet friendly chicken breeds on the planet, we are excited to offer the popular silkie chicken in the new color "Paint". Paint silkies are basically a white silkie with black patches or dots. They are not to be confused with splash colored silkies. Some paint silkies can just have a small patch or dot of black and some may have large black patches or large amounts of polka dots on them. It is important to understand that the paint silkie color pattern is a bit complicated. When breeding true paint silkies to true paint silkies, roughly half of their offspring are paint colored, roughly a quarter of their chicks are solid black (black splits) and roughly a quarter of their chicks are solid white (white splits).  When you order our paint silkie chicks, we will send you true paint silkie chicks that will grow up somewhat similar looking to our adult paint silkie chickens pictured above. (White with some sort of black patch or polka dot). It is also important to know that paint silkie chicks usually have lighter colored toes compared to the normal silkie chicken that has solid black toes. This is because of the complicated genetics with the paint silkies as the color is recessive which causes the lighter colored toe-tips in the chicks.

It is exciting to fill the void of rare color options in the beloved and popular silkie chicken for anyone to enjoy in their backyard.  Time to add some fluffy polka dots to your flock!

Quick Chick FAQs:

Straight Run Chicks: Straight Run Chicks are un-sexed, randomly selected and each chick has a 50/50 chance of being a male or female.

Shipping: You will receive an automatic email and text message when your chicks ship along with tracking info. Chicks usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later and your local Post Office will call you for pickup. Chicks are never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

What I Need: Everything you need can usually be purchased at your local feed store. Chick starter feed, waterer, brooder (cardboard box, plastic storage bin, bathtub, or even a kiddie pool are popular), pine shavings, thermometer and a heat lamp or heat source. Baby chicks require heat of about 95 degrees their first week of life. Second week you can lower the temperature to 90 degrees and so on with every week going down 5 degrees until 6-8 weeks old or when they are ready to go "outside".

How Do My Chicks Survive Shipment?: Baby chicks do not need food or water for the first 72 hours of life. Ingesting their yolk sac gives them the nutrition they need to survive the journey from Feather Lover Farm's hatching facility to you! Shipping day-old chicks helps ensure a safe arrival since they will usually be just 2 days old when you receive them. Our packaging is professional with a brand new chick shipping box, nesting material and warm long lasting heat packs depending on the time of the year. Your chicks will look like they just hatched out of a nest when you open the box and jump into your arms, thinking you are their mother hen!
