Description:

New For 2024

New for 2024 is our new imported French Champion bloodline of French Black Copper Marans for dark chocolate eggs and show exhibition! We are beyond excited to be able to offer you our new FLF Line of Black Copper Marans chicks For 2024. Black Copper Marans are known to lay the darkest chocolate brown egg of any chicken breed in the world! Our new imported bloodline was hand selected by us in 2023 from recent champion French bloodlines to only use the darkest brown egg layer possible in our breeding program. We only hatch chicks from very dark eggs that we ship to you. If you are looking to add a new quality bloodline of French Black Copper Marans to your flock, these are what you need!

The past 4 other common bloodlines known in the US are GFF, Bev Davis, Little Peddler and Wade Jean lines but all 4 lines have seemed to lack the consistent dark egg shell qualities. Though the previous bloodlines are beautful and can lay dark eggs, our new Black Copper Marans from the recently imported bloodlines blew us away with how dark of eggs they produce for us. They consistently lay the darkest eggs that we have ever seen. They also seem to have richer vibrant feather colors with more full feathering on their legs and feet. Some offspring can have white feathering in their wings and feet and seem to disappear as they get older. We are also working on breeding away from the white in the feathers while still selecting the darkest egg producing hens in our breeding program.

Other known Marans color varieties are white Marans, Splash Marans, and Blue Birchen Marans but the Black Copper Marans are known to lay the darkest egg of them all. Though we consistently can get 7-9 on the Marans egg color chart commonly used to judge Marans egg color, we cannot guarantee your hens from the chicks from us will all produce such dark eggs as each hen is destined to produce a different level of dark eggs than each other. Marans are also the one chicken breed that's egg color can change over its lifetime and time of the year. Other chicken breeds lay the same egg color they first produce the rest of their life but the Marans egg color is usually darkest when they first start laying and can lighten over the course of their life as well as time of the year can affect the darkness of their egg shell.

Marans are a breed that are always spelled with the letter "S" at the end, whether talking about 1 bird or many birds. They are a dual-purpose breed created in France in the 1800's.This breed is made its way into America a couple decades ago. In 2011 Black Copper Marans were accepted into the breed standard by the APA, "American Poultry Association" for poultry show competitions. For those interested in showing in poultry show competitions, whether showing for the darkest eggs or the bird itself, our new French Black Copper Marans bloodline should catch the poultry judges attention.

Whether you're a backyard chicken breeder Or a poultry show competition enthusiast, our Marans are stunning and lay some of the darkest eggs you’ll find. Our day-old chicks for sale from the new FLF line National Champion French Imports French Black Copper Marans are a must-have in your chicken coop.

Quick Chick FAQs:

Straight Run Chicks: Straight Run Chicks are un-sexed, randomly selected and each chick has a 50/50 chance of being a male or female.

Shipping: You will receive an automatic email and text message when your chicks ship along with tracking info. Chicks usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later and your local Post Office will call you for pickup. Chicks are never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

What I Need: Everything you need can usually be purchased at your local feed store. Chick starter feed, waterer, brooder (cardboard box, plastic storage bin, bathtub, or even a kiddie pool are popular), pine shavings, thermometer and a heat lamp or heat source. Baby chicks require heat of about 95 degrees their first week of life. Second week you can lower the temperature to 90 degrees and so on with every week going down 5 degrees until 6-8 weeks old or when they are ready to go "outside".

How Do My Chicks Survive Shipment?: Baby chicks do not need food or water for the first 72 hours of life. Ingesting their yolk sac gives them the nutrition they need to survive the journey from Feather Lover Farm's hatching facility to you! Shipping day-old chicks helps ensure a safe arrival since they will usually be just 2 days old when you receive them. Our packaging is professional with a brand new chick shipping box, nesting material and warm long lasting heat packs depending on the time of the year. Your chicks will look like they just hatched out of a nest when you open the box and jump into your arms, thinking you are their mother hen!
